As a partner in this program, SAFER is proud to share that a recent study from 5 regions in Tanzania shows that maternal deaths were reduced by 75% and newborn deaths by 40%.

Many maternal and newborn deaths are preventable. Whether it is a mother experiencing excessive postpartum bleeding or newborns being unable to breathe at birth spontaneously, the difference between life and death is often determined by whether their healthcare provider knows what steps to take quickly and effectively. That’s precisely the focus of the Safer Births Bundle of Care program, which equips those attending births with the skills and confidence to provide the proper care at the right time through regular, hands-on, data-led training.

In the face of stagnating maternal mortality statistics since 2015, this study – and the Safer Births Bundle of Care program – demands the attention of the maternal and newborn health community in order to tackle this very global issue.
