The purpose of the center is to enhance the clinical competence of staff among the three founding institutions. Simulation-based training should have an impact on patient safety, and improve the quality of patient care and survival.
Our course participants may encounter dramatic scenarios as well as common situations. SAFER courses span all stages in the Chain of Survival from initial, pre-hospital assessment to advanced, intensive care medical treatment.
Teaching activities comprise all elements of competence within the different sectors of the Circle of Learning including training in: Skills Proficiency, Decision-Making, and Full Scale Simulation in teams. Multi-professional team training is an important focus for SAFER where human factors take center stage. Emphasis is placed on CRM (Crew Resource Management) aspects like interpersonal communication, decision-making skills, and team performance.
The center also develops course concepts in cooperation with both local and international healthcare institutions and industry. A few examples of SAFER courses are: low-fidelity obstetric training; GP/nurse medical training; oil installation emergency medical training.
SAFER cooperates with an active international network of leading medical simulation centers and societies. Several national healthcare professional groups chose to hold their courses and meetings at SAFER.
SAFER aims to be a model center where guests and colleagues may visit and study the design of a simulation center. The center does research in learning, patient safety and clinical work among the founding institutions.
